Calcutta Rescue operates a network of clinics and a mobile urban street medicine programme. CR health workers visit local communities to make destitute people aware of CR’s services and other health issues including the need for child immunisations and treatment of TB and other communicable diseases. CR provides general medical care, promotes awareness of health and hygiene issues; and treats scabies, worms, lice and vitamin A deficiency. Patients who need follow-up treatment are referred to one of CR’s clinics or a government hospital for free medicine and care.
“It is estimated that India has 20% of the worlds population out of which 40% are malnourished.”
