2010 Ananda Utsav

India came to life in north London in March when the UK’s biggest celebration of Bengali culture was staged in Alexandra Palace.  From travelling Baul singers, to rock gods and Bollywood film stars the organisers of the PC Chandra Ananda Utsav pulled out all the stops to bring the best of Bengal to Britain.

Highlights included performances from India’s most famous magician,PC Sorcar, and a performance of Nobel prize winning poet Rabindranath Tagore’s Rabi o Radha.  Over the three days of the event Calcutta Rescue Fund volunteers talked to hundreds of people about the charity’s work.

Many brought beautiful handicrafts created in Kolkata by CR clients, others offered their help in a variety of ways.  And the charity even got a mention on Bengali TV when Sean Duggan was interviewed by a film crew from Ruposhi Bangla.

We are very grateful for the generous support of the organisers who gave us a stall at the event after hearing about the charity from the wonderful people at London Sharad Utsav who invited us to

participate in their Durga Puja celebrations in Ealing last year.

A big thank you also to Anirban Mukhopadhyay, Councillor Mrinal

Choudhury of London Kalibari and Dr Ananda Gupta of the Federation for Indian Arts for their invaluable support.
